Anti-Wrinkle Injections in Jesmond, Newcastle

What Are Anti-Wrinkle Injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections (commonly known by the trademark BotoxTM, or generically as botulinum toxin type A) are purified proteins that temporarily reduce muscle activity. When injected into specific facial or neck muscles, they block nerve signals that tell those muscles to contract. By dampening that muscle movement, overlying skin relaxes, smoothing dynamic wrinkles and reducing “pulling” effects over time.

While many people think of BotoxTM just for frown lines, it’s uses are much broader -including aesthetic contouring, muscular balancing, and even management of sweating in certain areas.

These treatments are minimally invasive, outpatient, and have high safety when performed by a qualified medical aesthetic injector.

Common Treatment Areas & Uses

Here are many of the areas and indications I offer in my clinic, with a brief explanation of how neurotoxin can help:

Area / Indication

What Is Treated & Why

Frown lines / Glabellar “11s”

Vertical lines between the eyebrows, arising from repeated contraction of the corrugator / procerus muscles.

Forehead (horizontal lines)

Lines that run across the forehead when you raise your brows; relaxing frontalis helps soften these.

Crow’s feet (around the eyes)

Lateral orbital lines that appear when you smile or squint — treatment softens these dynamic lines.

Jawline slimming / masseter reduction

In cases where the masseter (chewing) muscle is hypertrophic (overdeveloped), weakening it slightly can slim the lower face and reduce jaw width.

Nefertiti / Neck lift (platysma band relaxation)

The platysma muscle (running from jaw to neck) can pull downward. Relaxing parts of it can help smooth neck bands and improve lower face–neck contour (a non-surgical “lift”).

DAO (Depressor Anguli Oris) “grinch” / downturned mouth

The DAO muscle pulls down the corners of the mouth. Weakening it lightly lifts the mouth corners and counters a gloomy or sad resting expression.

Pebble / dimpled chin (“orange peel” chin)

Excessive or uneven contraction of the mentalis muscle can give a dimpled or pebbly texture; relaxing it smooths the surface.

Nasalis / nasal lines / “bunny lines”

Lines on or beside the nose when you scrunch or smile; these can be softened by carefully placed injections.

Excess sweating (hyperhidrosis)

In areas such as the underarms (axilla), neurotoxin can block the nerves that stimulate sweat glands, reducing sweating.

Procedure: What Happens During Treatment?

Here’s a step-by-step overview of how I perform anti-wrinkle injections in my clinic:

  1. Consultation & Assessment
    • Review your goals, photos, medical history, and anatomical analysis
    • Map out injection sites based on individual muscle strength, symmetry, and skin condition
  2. Marking & Preparation
    • Mark precise injection points
    • Cleanse and sterilise the skin thoroughly
  3. Anaesthesia / Comfort Measures
    • In general, numbing (topical anaesthetic cream) isn’t required because injections use ultra-fine needles and discomfort is mild
  4. Injection
    • The BotoxTM is injected using a fine needle into the target muscles or intradermal layers (for excess sweating)
    • The number of injection points and units used depends on area, muscle strength, asymmetry, and desired effect
  5. Immediate Post-Injection Care
    • Minimal pressure applied
    • It’s advised to remain upright for a few hours
    • Avoid vigorous exercise, saunas, aggressive facial manipulation for 24 hours

The entire procedure is typically short : generally 15 to 30 minutes, depending on how many areas are being treated.

Downtime, Risks & Side Effects

Downtime / Recovery

  • Minimal to none: most patients leave the clinic and resume daily activities
  • Slight redness, puncture marks, or minor swelling/bruising at injection sites for 1-2 days is common
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy heat (sauna, hot yoga), alcohol, or facial massages for 24-48 hours to minimise risk of diffusion

Possible Side Effects & Risks

Although rare when done by an experienced injector, potential side effects include:

  • Bruising, swelling, redness, or tenderness at injection sites
  • Temporary asymmetry (if diffusion is uneven)
  • Mild headache
  • Weakness or droop in adjacent muscles (e.g. eyelid ptosis, eyebrow drop)
  • Over-relaxation (e.g. “frozen” appearance) if overdosed
  • In neck injections (e.g. Nefertiti), incorrect injection may cause swallowing difficulty or neck weakness (rare)
  • Small risk of infection, allergic reaction

All these risks are mitigated by using careful technique, conservative dosing, anatomical knowledge, and conservative spacing.
